A desire for more space and a general update, we set out to help our clients transform the footprint of their home to better meet their needs with additional floor area and a stronger connection to the outdoor space. A dormer expansion on the second level allowed for an additional bedroom and spacious stair landing. On the main level, we opened up the rear of the house to create an addition that projects into the yard, creating an owner’s suite while also strengthening the relationship with the outdoor areas. Walls in the living and kitchen areas were removed to accommodate a new stairwell, while the added structural beams help to anchor the space both in materiality and uniformity.
